I think one thing all of us admire is passion – an unending enthusiasm and love for something that just radiates from that person. We all instinctively realize it when we see it; that fire in a person that burns bright and spurs them on to achieve great things and just never give up – no matter how hard it gets.

That’s the reason I love these videos of Alexei Yagudin in the 2002 Winter Olympics (Salt Lake City, Utah). He was at the top of his game at this point, and you can literally see him pour out all his passion on the ice.  I think at this point in time, there was no better skater than him. (For those wondering, I’m on the Yagudin side of the Plushenko/Yagudin argument).  He is just lyrical, so in touch with the feeling of the music that it is hard to separate the two. You can see that after all his hard work, his many hours perfecting the routine, he still deep down loves skating – and it shows!

I hope I demonstrate the same sort of passion in my library work – after all, if you don’t have passion or some sort of interest in your work – what’s the point?!
